Discussion:
[cross-project-issues-dev] Update to httpclient/httpcore in ECF/Platform

Hi all,

I would to like to push for switching ECF (and therefore Platform) to the
latest httpcomponents bundles available from orbit:

org.apache.httpcomponents.httpclient 4.5.5
org.apache.httpcomponents.httpcore 4.4.9

I hope that other consumers of these bundles can also standardise on these
latest bundles, but please make objections known if that is not the case.

Regards,
Mat

Please note that this will also require the following two updates:

org.apache.commons.codec 1.10.0 (from 1.9.0)
org.apache.commons .logging 1.2.0 (from 1.1.1)

Hi

My recollection is that there is a very strong expectation that all
SimRel projects build against the latest available version in Orbit.

Surely this correspondence should therefore just be a notification that
new Orbit versions are available and then discussion as to why a new
version cannot be accommodated and what consequences follow?

The versions Mat proposes:

org.apache.httpcomponents.httpclient  4.5.5
        org.apache.httpcomponents.httpcore   4.4.9

Are the most recent versions in Orbit [1].   This bug [2] was opened for
ECF and then subsequent Platform adoption.    If these versions cannot
be adopted by other SR projects, then the discussion should occur on 2.

To put this on a timeline:

We've completed the incorporation of 4.5.5/4.4.9 along with successfully
running our test suite.  Unless there are objections raised/discussed on
2, ECF will contribute this version as part of our 3.14.1 [a] release.
After that I expect it will be incorporated into platform for Photon.1 SR.

Just to clarify: there won't be a Photon.1 SR, but just a "normal" release
called 2018-09.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/536959 tracks the adoption of latest ECF in the
Platform.

ECF has contributed httpclient/httpcore 4.5.5/4.4.9 for the 2018-09
release as per [1].

Because of past problems with multiple versions of these bundles, all SR
projects that depend upon httpclient/httpcore directly will need to use
Orbit version 4.5.5/4.4.9 as well.

Hi

(Your message does not seem to have been sent out from the mailing list;
just the forum/archive.)

You refer to Photon.1 SR. Presumably you mean 2018-09 since maintenance
releases have now been abandoned.
